The Care

Understandably families and carers find the decision to place a loved one with a dementia into care both stressful and distressing. While you unlikely to become an expert in residential care homes, at Osborne House we will work with you to explain what happens to a person with a dementia and how we go about supporting both the person with a dementia and you.

Our philosophy is that Osborne House is the home of the people who live here. The team and our suppliers are there to support our people. Families and friends may visit at any time, as you would if the person were still at home. For example, If you would like to share a meal then please do not hesitate to let us know and we will be delighted to accommodate you.

Our aim is to enable a person with a dementia to enjoy the moment. While specific memories of current events are fading, we can create a positive sense of wellbeing which lasts beyond that of individual memories of an event. We have a number of approaches to supporting people with a dementia and their families and would be delighted to discuss these in detail with you.

We create an open homely and loving environment where we:

  • build close relationships with people with a dementia
  • support the emotions experienced by people with a dementia
  • create a sense of comfort and security
  • promote independence and do not nurture dependence
  • engage our people in a variety of activities
  • support the families of a person with a dementia
  • welcome visitors at any time
  • train the team in dementia and best practices in care
